Divi 5: Why This Is a Platform Migration, Not Just Another Website Update

If your WordPress website was built using Divi, there is a major change happening behind the scenes.

Divi is moving from Divi 4 to Divi 5.

The last major generation change, from Divi 3 to Divi 4, happened back in October 2019.

So this is not the kind of update that comes along every few months.

For many website owners, this will be the first major Divi platform change their website has gone through in around seven years.

And this time, the change goes much deeper.

Divi 5 is not simply an upgraded version of Divi 4. It is a complete rebuild of the platform underneath your website.

That is why moving an existing website from Divi 4 to Divi 5 needs to be treated as a website migration, rather than just another routine update.

Divi 5 is a platform rebuild

Elegant Themes, the company behind Divi, has rebuilt the platform on a new technical foundation.

That includes changes to:

  • the core Divi framework
  • how website layouts are stored
  • the Visual Builder
  • performance
  • responsive design controls
  • the developer framework
  • the way future Divi features can be built

As a website owner, you do not need to understand all the technical detail.

The important point is this:

Your website may look much the same after migration, but the technology underneath it is significantly different.

Think of it less like updating an app on your phone and more like replacing the engine and technology underneath it while keeping the outside looking familiar.

What are the benefits of Divi 5?

The long-term reason for the change is positive.

Divi 5 has been built to provide a more modern foundation for websites and future development.

Faster performance

Performance has been one of the major focuses of Divi 5.

The new framework is designed to process pages more efficiently, which should give developers a better foundation for improving website speed and performance.

Website speed matters for user experience, mobile visitors, conversions and SEO.

A faster Visual Builder

The Visual Builder used to create and edit Divi pages has also been rebuilt.

The editing experience is much faster and more responsive, particularly on larger or more complex pages.

Better responsive controls

Divi 5 also gives developers more flexible control over how websites display across desktop, tablet and mobile devices.

Built for the future

Most importantly, Divi 5 gives Elegant Themes a new foundation for future development.

New Divi features are now being developed for Divi 5, so this is the platform the product is moving forward with.

Why didn’t BYBO Digital move clients straight onto Divi 5?

Because your live business website is not somewhere we believe in testing brand-new technology.

Divi 5 was a huge redevelopment project.

During its earlier development and beta stages, there were naturally bugs, compatibility issues, missing features and ongoing fixes.

That is normal for a major software rebuild.

But we did not believe our clients should be used as testers.

So we deliberately waited.

We continued to maintain websites safely on the established Divi 4 framework while Divi 5 matured and became more stable.

Being first is not always the same as doing what is best for the website.

We would rather wait and migrate carefully than rush a live business website onto a new platform before we are comfortable doing so.

Why are we starting migrations now?

Divi 5 officially came out of beta on 26 February 2026.

Elegant Themes has said Divi 4 will continue to receive critical security and compatibility support for at least 12 months after that date, taking the guaranteed support period to around February 2027.

That gave existing website owners a sensible transition period.

However, Divi 5 is now the platform receiving new development, while Divi 4 is moving towards the end of its supported life.

So rather than leaving every website until the last minute, we are beginning to plan migrations now.

This gives us time to review each website individually, carry out the migration carefully, test everything properly and resolve any issues before the older platform reaches the end of its guaranteed support period.

Is moving from Divi 4 to Divi 5 just a normal update?

No.

This is where the difference between routine maintenance and a platform migration becomes important.

Throughout the year, we regularly carry out normal website updates such as:

  • WordPress updates
  • plugin updates
  • security updates
  • Divi maintenance releases
  • other routine website updates

These are updates to the existing platform.

Divi 5 is different.

Moving from Divi 4 to Divi 5 means moving the website onto a newly rebuilt version of the underlying Divi framework.

The existing website needs to be checked, migrated and tested.

Any plugins, custom code or additional functionality also need to be reviewed for compatibility.

That is why this is not something we simply click on a live website and hope for the best.

What does a Divi 5 migration involve?

The exact process depends on the website, but a typical migration may include:

Backup

We take a full backup of the existing website before making any major changes.

Staging

Where appropriate, we create a private staging version of the website so the migration can be carried out away from the live site.

Compatibility checks

We review plugins, modules, custom code and additional functionality that may need extra attention.

Migration

The existing Divi 4 content is migrated into the new Divi 5 structure.

Testing

We then check the website across desktop, tablet and mobile, including layouts, forms, links, navigation and functionality.

Fixes and launch

If we find any issues, we correct them before moving the updated version safely onto the live website.

Will my website look completely different?

No.

A Divi 5 migration is not automatically a website redesign.

Your branding, content, images and overall design should remain familiar.

The biggest changes are happening behind the scenes.

If your website is several years old and your business has outgrown it, this may also be a sensible time to discuss a redesign or refresh, but that would be a separate project.

Why isn’t the Divi 5 migration included in normal website maintenance?

Our monthly Hosting & Maintenance service is designed to cover the routine ongoing work needed to keep your website hosted, maintained, monitored and updated.

A Divi 5 migration is different.

It is a one-off technical migration project caused by a major rebuild of the underlying platform.

The last major Divi generation change was back in 2019, so this is not something that happens every year.

Because of the additional work involved, the move from Divi 4 to Divi 5 is not included within the standard monthly Hosting & Maintenance fee.

Some websites will be relatively straightforward to migrate, while others may require more work depending on their size, age and functionality.

For that reason, we will review each website individually.

If your website is hosted and maintained by BYBO Digital, we will be in touch with you directly to explain what is involved for your website and confirm the one-off cost of carrying out the Divi 5 migration.

We will always confirm the cost with you before any migration work is carried out.

Your normal monthly Hosting & Maintenance service will continue as usual.

If your website was built by BYBO Digital but is hosted elsewhere, we can also offer the Divi 5 migration as a one-off service.

What do BYBO Digital clients need to do?

If your website is hosted and maintained by BYBO Digital, you do not need to do anything at the moment.

We will contact you directly when we are ready to plan your migration.

We will explain what is involved, confirm the one-off cost and agree the next steps before any work begins.
